Dengue fever is a viral infection caused by the four types of dengue virus, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. Dengue fever cannot be transmitted directly from one person to another. However, there have been cases of transmission through sexual intercourse, as well as from mother to child during childbirth or breastfeeding. The disease occurs mainly in tropical and subtropical regions such as North and South America, Africa, Southeast Asia, the western Pacific region and the eastern Mediterranean. The highest number of cases is reported in Asia.
Currently, the risk of symptomatic infections is low in Poland, but it is important to be particularly cautious being among patients returning from regions where dengue fever is endemic. It is the most commonly diagnosed disease among travellers returning from tropical areas.
The infection normally doesn't cause any symptoms or just a few. They usually show up 4-10 days after getting infected and last up to one week. The following flu-like symptoms may occur: high fever (>38°C), chills, eye pain, severe headaches, rash, nausea, muscle and joint pain. In severe cases, haemorrhagic symptoms may occur, as well as loss and disorders of consciousness, a decrease in blood pressure and multiple organ failure, which may ultimately lead to the death of the patient.
There is no specific treatment for dengue infection, though it involves taking medications to alleviate symptoms. In severe cases, hospitalisation may be required.
To prevent infection, it is recommended to use repellents and wear appropriate clothes that protect against mosquitoes.
It is possible to be vaccinated against dengue fever with a live, attenuated quadrivalent vaccine, but it is recommended only for selected travellers after vaccination qualification appointment with a travel medicine doctor.
Disease diagnosis using Dengue IgG/IgM/NS1 Rapid Test Cassette
Dengue IgG/IgM/NS1 Rapid Test Cassette is a quick immunochromatographic test, which provides a qualitative detection of NS1 antigen of dengue virus and IgG/IgM antibodies against it. The test is intended for use in the diagnosis of dengue infection.
The blood sample is taken from the patient by qualified medical personnel, which is authorised to carry out the test.
The test results are read after 10 minutes. The results are interpreted in accordance with the instructions included in the test kit. The doctor is responsible for deciding on further diagnostic and therapeutic measures.
Who is Dengue IgG/IgM/NS1 Rapid Test Cassette designed for?
Dengue IgG/IgM/NS1 Rapid Test Cassette is a useful tool for diagnosing dengue virus infection in patients with worrying symptoms, especially if they have been in regions where the disease is endemic and are likely to have been bitten by mosquitoes.

IMPORTANT! The test can be carried out as a screening test which helps diagnose the dengue virus infection. Any positive results obtained with Dengue IgG/IgM/NS1 Rapid Test Cassette must be confirmed by another diagnostic method (e.g. isolation of the virus genetic material or other serological tests). |
