Teeth scaling – how does it work?

It is a procedure that involves the removal of supragingival tartar from the surface of teeth.

Tartar forms as a result of mineralisation and hardening of bacterial plaque. Frequent brushing and flossing of interdental spaces will minimise its formation, but it is recommended to have your teeth professionally cleaned at the dentist's office at least once every 12 months.

Teeth tartar is removed using special ultrasonic scaler that generates vibrations, which break down tartar deposits. It is also possible to perform this procedure with a manual scaler.

The procedure is painless, but the patients with sensitive teeth can have it performed under anaesthesia.

Teeth sandblasting – how does it work?

Sandblasting involves a mechanical removal of discolouration and plaque. It is a procedure complementary to scaling.

The procedure is performed with the use of a sandblaster, which releases under pressure water containing a special powder that removes plaque.

Sandblasting may be performed under anaesthesia, which eliminates the unpleasant sensation that the procedure may cause.
