Orthodontic consultation – what do you need to know?
During an orthodontic consultation, your doctor will assess your oral and dental health and diagnose any malocclusion. This check-up is painless and non-invasive. If a bite correction is required, the doctor will discuss the available treatment methods and expected results. A treatment plan is then prepared — a process that requires time and patience, and in most cases involves fitting an orthodontic appliance.
Why it’s worth choosing orthodontic treatment?
- Improves the aesthetics of your smile — without surgical procedures
- Prevents teeth from wearing down and being damaged due to misalignment
- Reduces discomfort caused by unnatural facial muscle tension
- Corrects bite irregularities, enabling proper chewing and improving everyday comfort
- Helps address speech disorders caused by bite issues
- The cost of treatment can be divided into convenient installments, and the type of appliance can be tailored to your needs
- Orthodontic treatment is an investment in health, aesthetics, and self-confidence — its effects are visible not only in your smile but in your entire facial expression
What malocclusions and abnormalities can be addressed by orthodontic treatment?
- Transverse malocclusions – such as crossbite or scissor bite, when the lower teeth overlap the upper teeth or are excessively pushed forward
- Vertical malocclusions – including deep bite or open bite, when lower teeth are completely covered by the upper ones or, conversely, when there is a gap between them
- Sagittal malocclusions – including overbite or underbite, meaning the jaw is positioned too far back or forward in relation to the upper jaw
- Crowding – when there isn’t enough space in the dental arch for all teeth
- Spacing – when the teeth do not touch each other and there are gaps between them
How to prepare for your first orthodontic visit?
During your first appointment, the orthodontist evaluates the nature of your bite issue in comfortable conditions, using painless and non-invasive diagnostic methods. They assess facial symmetry, jaw width, and jaw joint function, as well as the condition of your teeth, gums, and oral mucosa.
Before starting treatment, any cavities should be treated and teeth should be in good health. The doctor then takes dental impressions (plaster model), a panoramic X-ray, and a cephalometric image to develop a personalized treatment plan, which will be discussed at your next appointment.
