Detection of chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in urine to confirm or exclude pregnancy, or in the case of missed menstruation of unknown cause.

This hormone is produced by the developing placenta.

• Before the test, a disposable container should be obtained. Containers are available at the Sample Collection Point or can be purchased at a pharmacy.
• Urine for a general test should be collected in the morning after a night's rest.
• Before collecting the urine sample, wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap, and then cleanse the urethral opening (in women: the vulva area, from front to back; in men: the glans after retracting the foreskin). A disposable towel should be used for drying. Strict hygiene is essential to eliminate bacteria from the skin surface, as their presence in the sample may distort the test results.
• The urine sample should be collected from the so-called “midstream” – first, pass a small amount of urine into the toilet, then collect the urine into the container. The final portion of urine should also be passed into the toilet.
• The collected urine sample for a general test should be between 50 and 100 milliliters.
• The container with the urine sample should be tightly sealed and delivered to the Sample Collection Point as soon as possible. If immediate delivery is not possible, the container should be stored in a refrigerator and brought for testing as soon as feasible. For culture testing, the sample must not be refrigerated for more than 2 hours.

• Test results are available within 3 business days.
• Results can be collected at the reception of any Medicover Center.
