Vascular surgeon

A vascular surgeon treats vascular diseases. The vascular surgeon provides consultations on the treatment of the following:

• varicose veins,
• venous thrombosis,
• lower limb ischaemia,
• atherosclerosis,
• carotid artery diseases,
• stroke,
• aortic and peripheral artery aneurysms,
• venous ulcers.

During the consultation, the doctor:

• takes history and performs a physical examination,
• gives a diagnosis,
• gives medical instructions,
• prescribes medication,
• issues referrals for examinations/tests, consultations andhospitalisation,
• issues sick notes.

During the visit, the doctor may measure blood pressure and perform a rectal examination.
