The HPV 28 test is a highly accurate genetic test that identifies 28 genotypes of human papillomavirus (HPV), which can lead to wart-like lesions and cancer. The most oncogenic types are HPV 16 and 18. HPV infection can lead to the development of cancer of the penis, anus and throat. If the result is positive, the test provides a definitive diagnosis of HPV infection and determines its specific genotype.
The range of detected genotypes:
- 19 high-risk types: 16, 18, 26, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 69, 73, 82
- 9 low-risk types: 6, 11, 40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 61, 70
The HPV 28 test is designed for men who:
- lead a sexual life with more than one partner;
- start a new sexual relationship;
- have a partner with a diagnosed HPV infection;
- want to get tested to prevent sexually transmitted infections;
- consider vaccination against HPV and want to enure they are not already infected;
- have recurrent genital or anal warts (condylomata acuminata);
- notice unusual changes or experience discomfort in the genital area.
Test advantages:
- Detection of up to 28 HPV genotypes, covering a much wider range than basic tests designed to detect this virus.
- Identification of both high-risk oncogenic types (including HPV 16 and 18) and low-risk types (including HPV 6 and 11) which cause the development of genital warts (condyloma acuminatum).
- Possibility of taking appropriate preventive and diagnostic measures at an early stage of infection.
- The test is quick, non-invasive and painless.
- It is useful as a pre-vaccination test against HPV.
Symptoms suggesting HPV infection in men include:
- wart-like lesions on the penis, scrotum or anus;
- itching, burning or discomfort in the genital area;
- recurrent genital warts (condyloma acuminatum);
- chronic balanitis or urethritis.

How to prepare for the test?
- Avoid urinating for 1-2 hours before the sample is taken (in the case of a urethral swab).
- Do not use ointments, creams or other preparations on the area from which the swab will be taken.
- In the case of a rectal swab, avoid suppositories and enemas for 24 hours prior to the test.
Test procedure:
The sample can be collected by a nurse in the form of:
- a swab from the urethra;
- a swab from the groove behind the glans penis;
- a swab from the anus – depending on the medical indications.
If you wish to collect the sample yourself, please inform the nurse. They will provide you with a collection kit and instructions, as well as guidance on how to collect the sample correctly. Then, you can collect the sample yourself and hand it over to the nurse.
IMPORTANT! The quality of the sample is entirely your responsibility if you collect it yourself. Improper collection may result in a poor-quality sample, which increases the risk of false negative results. If there is any suspicion that the swab was taken incorrectly, the test may need to be repeated, which will incur additional charges for the patient. To ensure the results are as reliable as possible, we recommend reading the collection instructions included in the kit carefully and seeking assistance from medical staff.
