Allergists consult patients with allergic diseases (e.g. asthma, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, hives (nettle rash), food and drug hypersensitivity, sensitisation), qualify them for specific immunotherapy (desensitisation) and conduct such therapies during scheduled appointments.
During the consultation, an allergist:
- takes the patient’s history (including allergy history) and performs a physical examination;
- makes diagnoses;
- provides medical recommendations;
- prescribes drugs;
- issues medical referrals for tests and examinations, consultations, and hospital treatments;
- issues sick leaves.
